OASW Child and Youth Initiative Facebook Group
Tuesday, November 24, 2009
OASW's Child and Youth Initiative is using Facebook to encourage social work students and social workers across the province to support the "I am a Witness" campaign and the important work being done by Cindy Blackstock at the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada (FNCFCS).
The intent of OASW's Child and Youth Initiative is to provide a space and an opportunity for Ontario social work students and social workers to become aware of the historic Canadian Human Rights Tribunal hearings examining the treatment of First Nations children by the federal government. OASW is asking students and social workers to make a commitment:
1. To follow the tribunal hearings as reported in the media and through information posted on the FNCFCS website;
2. To post comments and impressions about what is happening on OASW's Facebook group and to read other people's postings; and
3. To form an opinion about the validity of the human rights complaint against the federal government involving discrimination against First Nations children and to register support for Jordan's Principle.
