Happy National Social Work Week March 1 to 7, 2010
Thursday, March 04, 2010
National Social Work Week affords a significant opportunity to celebrate the profession and to highlight ways in which social work practice and our focus on the social determinants of health address issues such as poverty, lack of affordable housing or unemployment that can impact on the quality of life and social well-being for individuals and groups.
Proudly wear your button that says: “Social Work Is Good for Your Health"! Did you know that more than 60 per cent of the profession work in health care? In fact, this number would be much larger if we used the broad World Health Organization definition of "health" and "well-being". Please take a moment to view a bibliography one-pager on The Value of Social Work in Health Care.
The "Social Work Is Good for Your Health" initiative is being spearheaded by OASW's Health Care Advisory Group. To order "Social Work Is Good for Your Health" buttons and postcards, click on the Shop OASW button or at the bottom of this page. (If you are a member, enter the Member Site first to see member prices).
