National Social Work Week 2009

Friday, January 23, 2009

National Social Work Week 2009 will take place March 2-8.

The theme for National Social Work Week 2009 in Ontario will be: “Social Workers Making a Difference in the Lives of Older Adults and Their Families”.

National Social Work Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the contribution of social workers and to reflect to colleagues and the public the value of social work.

We encourage you to think broadly about the theme “Social Workers: Making a Difference in the Lives of Older Adults and Their Families”. While some social workers work directly with older adults and their families through hospitals, clinics, home care services, long-term care homes and a wide array of other services, we are all touched by aging regardless of our sphere of practice. Aging is a societal issue and has implications related to: our workforce; linking caregivers to resources; intergenerational relationships; service models to assist older adults remain in the community; the challenges of harnessing the skills and energy of retirees; etc. In essence, aging is everyone’s business.

As in previous years, a wide variety of materials is available including colourful posters, bookmarks, pens, notepads, T-shirts, etc. New items for this year are eco-notebooks, stainless steel water bottles and coin wallets. As well, by popular demand, we have restocked the green latte mug with the slogan "Social Workers Are Extraordinary".
