At OASW, we acknowledge that our work takes place on the traditional territory of many nations. The OASW office is located in Toronto on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.
We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. We respectfully recognize the presence of Indigenous peoples both in the past and the present as we commit to meaningful dialogue and necessary change.
It is important we recognize the lands on which we work and the historical impact of multi-generational effects of colonization, broken treaties, oppressive laws, enslavement and racism that have occurred.
Along with this, we acknowledge our collective responsibilities and solidarity to restore our commitment to support action. We are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work here. As members of the Canadian Association of Social Workers, OASW supports and participates in their Statement of Apology and Commitment to Reconciliation.
