Managing Social Services in Hard Times (2009)
This article discusses the tensions and possibilities facing managers within rounds of cutbacks and restructuring in health and social services. Shifting organizational and funding structures narrow both clients’ entitlements to public support and the scope of our work. Drawing on some ongoing research and on an educational partnership between the McMaster School of Social Work and local Children’s Aid Societies, we have been learning about managers’ experiences.
