Patrick Fleming has been practicing social work for 37 years and a member of OASW for 36 years. He completed a Bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University in 1979 and a Masters of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1981.
Patrick has always maintained a clinical practice: 3 years in Child Welfare and the last 34 years in Geriatric Mental Health. Administratively, Patrick has also held positions of Social Work Supervisor Psychiatry, Clinical Coordinator Geriatric Mental Health Program and Social Work Professional Practice Leader Victoria Hospital.
Academically, Patrick has been a field Practice Educator since 1986, primarily teaching MSW graduate students. He has also taught courses at the School of Social Work, King’s University College (London) on social work practice with older adults.
Patrick has been a strong advocate for older adults and has been involved with community research projects looking at older adult needs in neighbourhoods in London. He has been a champion concerning elder abuse and presently chairs the local elder abuse network, Elder Abuse London Middlesex. He has also been a major support with London becoming an Age Friendly designated city by the World Health Organization. Patrick chairs the Social Support and Health Services working group with the Age Friendly London Network.
Professionally, Patrick was a board member and past president of the OASW Western Branch Board and from 2010 to 2017 Southwestern Regional Director with the provincial board.
As Treasurer-Secretary, Patrick wishes to continue to build upon and move forward OASW’S strategic plan and strengthen the financial health and well-being of the Association. Working together with the membership we will strengthen our profession and help create a healthier society.
