OASW Comments on the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017

Ontario has passed the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA). This legislation, once proclaimed, will replace the Child and Family Services Act, 1990. The CYFSA contains many significant amendments, including raising the age of protection from 16 to 18 years as of January 1, 2018. Recently, OASW participated in a period of public consultation concerning newly proposed regulations within the CYFSA. We submitted written comments and took part in a meeting with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services to discuss strengthening the role of social work within the CYFSA. OASW continues to monitor developments in this area closely as an interested stakeholder during final revisions to this Act.
