Elder Abuse & Violence Against Women Forum

OASW participated in a day of learning and collaboration on November 21st, at the Working at the Intersections of the Elder Abuse and Violence against Women Sectors Interdisciplinary Forum.

The event was held at Women's College Hospital in partnership with Elder Abuse Ontario and the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centres. Topics of discussion highlighted that although older women are shown to be at a heightened risk of experience abuse, there is a gap in services needed that take into account the impact of gender and age. In order to better provide older women with the resources needed to prevent and mitigate the harmful effects and negative social outcomes of gender-based violence across the lifespan, elder abuse and violence against women sectors must work together.
