Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) J. Clark, PhD, ACSW, MPH , is Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers (U.S.), which has 145,000 members. Dr. Clark has conducted research and has published in areas such as the social work workforce and social work policy, as well as clinical areas such as illness and loss, hope and survivorship. In having led numerous delegations of social workers globally, she has a unique perspective and insights regarding the profession as well as current and future trends and challenges for social workers.

This keynote address will focus on social work’s role as a profession of hope. Despite sometimes addressing multifaceted problems, social workers nonetheless help people find solutions to overcome barriers that prevent them from leading meaningful and productive lives. This presentation aspires to remind us why we chose to be a social worker and why social work is indispensable in our communities.
