Why did OASW provide this course?
OASW believes our members need to be ready for the future. By 2024, 1 in 5 Canadians will be over the age of 65 and 93% of them will be living in the community. Our profession's grounding in the Social Determinants of Health and strengths-based approach to service delivery ideally suits social workers to serve this population, but many social workers have not acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to do so.

What is OTN's involvement?
The Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) is partnering with OASW on this initiative and will provide the online platform for the program's delivery.  OTN, the world's largest provider of video-teleconferencing, is now delivering virtual education services and technologies on laptops and mobile devices.  OASW believes that participants will have a first-rate online learning experience because of this partnership with OTN.

How long is the program?
The program is offered over 13 weeks with an Introductory Module and six course modules, each with a duration of three learning hours and delivered over a two-week period.

Who is this program for?
The program is for experienced social workers who wish to expand their knowledge and skills to address the needs of older adults in their professional practice.

Can recent graduates and students enrol?
Recent graduates are welcome to enrol in the program; however, the content has been designed for social workers who have experience in practice.

Is the enrolment limited to a certain number of people?
Enrolment is not limited.
