Angèle Bénard

Director at Large (2023-2025)

 
Angèle Bénard (she/her/elle) is a francophone Registered Social Worker who grew up, lives and works on Robinson Huron Treaty territory (1850). Her BSW and more recently, her MSW, were completed through the francophone social work program at Laurentian University. 

With more than 20 years in the field, her experience spans women’s issues, mental health, education, youth mentorship, community development, advocacy, and leadership. Since 2008, she has worked with the Huntington Society of Canada both directly with individuals and families affected by Huntington disease, and then as the leader of the national team of social workers. The skills that she has developed include mentoring, group facilitation, creating and maintaining support and service networks, educational resource development, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, remote supervision, and advocacy for patients/clients as partners in research.

As a volunteer with school committees and regional/provincial boards, Angèle shares her skills and knowledge to support organizational growth and to promote space for diverse voices, life experiences and world views. 

Angèle is excited to join the OASW Board of Directors and looks forward to contributing to the promotion of education, connection, and mental health amongst members, and to raise awareness of the social work profession in Ontario.
